WELCOME TO ST. ALBAN’S

As a a Christ-centered community, driven by the Spirit, we at St. Alban’s believe in the life-changing love and acceptance of Jesus Christ and we strive to share God’s love and acceptance with everyone we meet – no conditions, no exceptions!

We believe that no matter who you are, no matter what your age, no matter where you are from or what language you speak, not matter who you love, no matter what you believe, or where you are on your own spiritual journey, you are a beloved child of God!

We claim our deep desire to follow in the footsteps of Jesus by loving God and loving our neighbor, by offering up ourselves for each other, to sit and listen to each other’s stories, and to strive to build genuine relationships with God and with those in and among our community.

We hope you will find St. Alban’s a place of welcome to anyone and everyone who walks through its Red Doors - for no matter who you are, where you are from, who you love, or where you are on your faith journey, you will find that there’s a place for you here.

PALM SUNDAY - SUNDAY OF THE PASSION

SUNDAY, APRIL 13 - 7:30 AM AND 9:45 AM

Palm Sunday begins the holiest week of the Church year. The Sunday before Easter, we recall Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Mt 21:1-11, Mk 11:1-11a, Lk 19:29-40) and Jesus’ Passion on the cross (Mt 26:36-27:66, Mk 14:32-15:47, Lk 22:39-23:56). Join us at 7:30 AM at St. Alban’s Walnut Street Parish Hall Door, and 9:45 AM in front of the Windsor United Methodist Church, as we gather togetyher to hear about Jesus' triumphant entry into the City of Jerusalem followed by the Passion of Christ as told by Luke.

HOLY SATURDAY - BLESSING OF THE EASTER FOODS

SATURDAY, APRIL 19 - 10:00 AM

Holy Saturday, the third day of the Triduum, is the Saturday after Good Friday and it recalls the day when the crucified Christ visited among the dead while his body lay in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. There is no eucharist on Holy Saturday. Instead, we remember and honor those whom we have lost and see no longer with a simple, contemplative service of the word. Holy Saturday ends at sunset when, in the ancient church, those preparing for baptism and perhaps others were permitted to break their fast began on Good Friday. In remembrance of this tradition, we will bless the foods of Easter (eggs, bread, meat, wine) you wish to bring to break your own fast and eat on Easter Sunday.

GOOD FRIDAY - STATIONS OF THE CROSS

FRIDAY, APRIL 18 - 10:00 AM TO 4:00 PM

The Stations of the Cross (also the Way of the Cross or Via Dolorosa) is a contemplative devotion to the Passion of Christ which recalls a series of events at the end of Jesus' life from his condemnation to his burial. The Way of the Cross imitates the practice of visiting the places of Jesus' Passion in the Holy Land by early Christian pilgrims. Come and experience our self-guided, outdoor Stations of the walk using the meditation devotional, "Everyone's Way of the Cross.” Outdoor Stations will line the sidewalks on Walnut Street and 6th Street.

MAUNDY THURSDAY AND OVERNIGHT VIGIL

THURSDAY, APRIL 17 - 6:30 PM

Maundy Thursday begins the Holy Triduum (Three Holy Days) of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. It comes from the Latin mandatum novum or “new commandment” (John 13:34). The ceremony of washing feet was also referred to as “the Maundy.” Maundy Thursday commemorates the institution of the eucharist by Jesus “on the night he was betrayed” and the act of servanthood by the washing of feet. Following this, the altar is stripped and all decorative furnishings are removed from the church. An overnight Vigil in the Columbarium follows our Maundy Thursday service.

GOOD FRIDAY - VENERATION OF THE CROSS

FRIDAY, APRIL 18 - 6:30 PM

Good Friday, the second day of the Triduum, is the Friday before Easter Day, on which the church commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is a day of fasting and special acts of discipline and self-denial. In the early church candidates for baptism, joined by others, fasted for a day or two before the Paschal feast. Our service includes John's account of the Passion gospel, a solemn form of intercession known as the solemn collects (dating from ancient Rome), and veneration of the cross. The darkness of Good Friday prepares us for the joy of Christ's glorious Resurrection.

St. Alban’s joins with people of faith across the world in offering its prayers for peace and protection for God's beloved people in both Israel and Palestine.

O Lord, Maker of Heaven and Earth, who holds in balance the nations, we ask you for peace in the lands of Israel and Palestine. Comfort the afflicted, strengthen the weak, and turn the hearts of those filled with hatred towards reconciliation. Guide the leaders with wisdom so that they may seek justice and mercy. Protect the innocent, shield the vulnerable, and watch over all who serve to alleviate pain. Let your peace descend upon the Holy Land as a balm to soothe this longstanding wound. All this we ask in your Name, Amen.

The wearing of masks during services and meetings is welcome but not required. Masks (KN95) are available for those who wish to remain masked. St. Alban's also has its own masks available for purchase, proceeds going forward to St. Alban's Outreach Ministries.
